Ankle fractures can be extremely difficult to heal properly, depending on how compounded it is. My son broke his badly in a motorbike accident. Pins and screws were inserted to keep the lot together. I don't want to alarm you but his ankle took 4 months to heal to the point where he could walk well enough to return to work [fitter-turner]. Proper rest is essential for proper healing. To expect someone to return to work after one week is a bit harsh.
If you want to do something before being on your feet all day you might be able to find some volunteer work where you can have a sit-down chore, check with Social Security first though. Don't be in a too much of a hurry to return to work where you need to be on your feet all day, ankle (and wrist) fractures can be vicious. Hope the financial side works out ok for you.
