Microwave for 8mins, rub oil over the skins, then put in a hot oven for about an hour (that's if you want crispy skins)
iif doing it in the oven i just put potato in and leave on about 200 for an hour. All i do is clean it and prick it first

sometimes i will microwave them first to save time and just do last 20 mins in oven.
As redcrx say in the oven for at least an hour for the BEST potatoes (or on a real fire).

If I mirowave first to save time I leave them in for only about 20mins if you rub butter on the skins and make the oven is very hot they will crisp up quickly so no need to eave them in longer.

Quite fancy one now :)
Prickle the skin all over with a sharp cooking fork, then wrap in foil. Bake on the middle shelf of the oven, on a baking tray, 190C for one and a half hours. The advantage of baking in the oven is that you can bake more than one potato at the same time, and the outside of the potato is nice and crispy. Microwaving works well if you are in a hurry, but then you only wrap in kitchen tissue after prickling the skin. The inner still tastes good, but of course the skin doesn't become crispy. Hope this helps.
I used to put a metal skewer through mine, to make sure the centres were cooked through.
They are yet to invent a microwave cooker that can cook a baked potato even as good as an oven.

They cook better if you put a steel skewer through them. This way, the heat can quickly get to the centre of the potato.

I cook them reasonably low, about gas 4 for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
I go with redrx on this one,you dont need to prick the tattie unless part cooking in microwave, oven on at 200degrees,wash dry tattie, rub with oil and sprinkling of sea salt if liked, place on tray and bake for at least one hour depending on size of potato you are using, its important to use the correct type of spud when baking them, cara, maris piper, roosters are all good for baking, bon appetite!!
In the oven on high.
It takes about an hour but the smell is amazing and it taste better and you get a crispy skin.
I cook mine for 6 or 7 minutes in the microwave then rub olive oil into the skin and then sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

Bung in the oven until cooked

You get crispy skin and lots of little salt "pings" when you eat the skin
Oven-cooked = Metal skewer with as many spuds as can be poked onto it. High oven & skewered spuds on top.

Will cook in half the time as the skewer passes heat thru middle of spuds.
