I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but here it is. I just bought an old gun yesterday that was made in 1938 and it is in really great condition. It still has the SN # and I was wondering if there is a site on the net that I could go to to see the history of this particular gun and see where all it has been and/or done?

not quite an ak 47 then?
I've been a gun collector here in the U.S. for many years. Most sites that deal with collecting (or just interest) will give you a date range for the SN. It would be very difficult to determine much more than that for individual fire arms.

Depending on the brand or maker there may be additional information on a selected series of SN's if they were unique in some way. I have Winchester and Remington's from the late 1800's and am fortunate enough to have a couple with 5 digit serial numbers, which in itself is unique.

Best of luck!

the gun is a 7.62x54 Russian

oh and its a bolt action rifle. It says something before the bolt action rifle but I cant make it out on the paper.
Yours is most likely the ubiquitous Mosin-Nagant 1891/30 rifle... a workhorse but not without problems. It's straight bolt action is not well adapted to a sporter but the action is strong and typically Russian. Here's a site with lots of information if it's the M-N 1891/30

Yeah thats what it is. Thanks

Is there a way for me to find out if the gun that I have was ever used in a war?
Try entering Mosin-Nagant and the serial number in Google or search engine of your choice. Sometimes that will lead you to the year of manufacture...

Best of luck!
