What is the meaning of "put on the wire" in the following sentences?

"Good. Question the drivers. See if they saw anything. Then contact the taxi company dispatcher with descriptions. I'm calling Interpol."

From the early days of the telegraph system, 'the wire' meant the actual wire along which messages could be sent. A telegram was often actually called 'a wire'. Nowadays, it refers to any communication system, such as telephone, fax etc. In your example, someone is planning to pass information to Interpol
