I am trying to find a guitar for my partner on ebay, but apart from Yamaha I don't know which other makes are any good. I've seen Corina, Hohner, Brunswick and Aria. Anyone know what are good ones for me to look for?

Hi It all depends on price like most things I suppose ,think how much you wish to spend ,add the cost of a case for the guitar ,also a strap, another thing to be carefull of is that it suits your partner, some guitars are difficult for females to play ,do you want wire strings or nylon.
Once you have sorted this out then start thinking about makes etc .
If you should need more help please let me know .
Good Luck
In my experience it is difficult to find a bargain on ebay. They often go for not much cheaper than you would pay in the shops. There are lots of Yamahas because this is the one generally used in schools. They do have a good reputation. Check the current price in Argos before deciding what to bid. Of the cheaper makes I reckon Epihone is good. They are owned by Gibson and are much better than the cheapo Fenders. If you have never heard of the make dont touch it.

Not the anser you have requested but:

Having said that, I would hate someone choosing a guitar for me. Its such a personal thing and if he/she does not like it it will never be right. Take him/her to your local music shop and see which one he/she lusts after. The shop assistant will be happy to point you to the best one in your price range. And dont forget to ask for a discount.
Argos can be a good source of decent, cheap acoustic guitars for the beginner. They're of a good enough quality to stay in tune and to enable you to learn the basics, but if the player decides it's not for them, then you haven't spent a small fortune.

Make depends a lot on what sort of style you want to play. I learnt classical for a while and treated myself to a bottom end Rodriguez, which had a good resale value when I packed it in.

Look at Tanglewood, good but affordable and sound nice, and I'm told Vintage (yes, it is a make) is good too.

If you're around Leicester, I can give you the name of a very good guitar shop.
Aria are quite good. I have 2 Aria guitars.
They range in price from 100-400.
I chose my Aria Sandpiper as it won Guitar of the year at the time and it has got better with age.
Personally I am all for Yamaha. They are loud for acoustics, well made and a good price generally. I got mine from Dolphin music over the internet. It was well priced and I got good service. Just Google them.
