The BBC are running a series of programmes getting us to vote for the top 10 Greatest Britons of all time. Do you really think Princess Di should be in this top 10 list? I've got nothing against her but she is in there with some giants of European/World History. It makes me wonder why Robbie Williams isn't in there too.

The most bizarre thing for me was that Michael Crawford (of Frank Spencer and bad musicals fame) was in at number 17 - that's way ahead of, ooh, let's see, David Livingstone, James Watt, William Caxton, George Stephenson, Alexander Fleming, Wlliam Blake. . . I could go on but I think I've made my point.

The interesting aspect of this kind of list is that it promotes 'favourite' father than 'greatest'. i would certainly rate Queen Elizabeth I witrhout whom there wouldn't be a Britain to judge over, above Princess Diana, but when you check out the media coverage, the law of averages means Diana is streets ahead. I must confess I'm baffled about Micahel Crawford though - surely John Cleese or Elaine Page should be occupying his position?
