Whats with all the shark attacks?

Am I the only person who has seen a lot of news articles in the last few days detailing recent shark attacks? Are they really on the increase this year, or is this some cynical way to plug shark week?(my sis tells me it starts next week).

Typical media - they get a good bit of video footage (of the shark mouthing a cage, which was shot in December, BTW), then once it hits the news, they are on the alert to tie in any further items to the story

Shark attacks are genuinely increasing, because us humans are venturing further into their territory while surfing, shark diving in cages and baiting them with meat to make it more exciting... what the heck do people expect?
If someone came uninvited into your house you'ld have a go wouldn't you!
