Duing this fourth week in the reign of Sir Strix the Currier, a great bounty visited AB-land and points galore fell from above like manna from heaven! There will be no more Horsing About as I now reveal the four chosen links were:

Mare NOSTRUM
Frog SPAWN
Cannon FODDER
Saddle SORE

Research on my part discovered that "Mare Nostrum" was Latin for "Our Sea" and is an archaic term used for the "Mediterranean Sea". I promptly forecast that no-one would predict THAT ~ and was prepared to put a fiver on it! Sir Strix accepted the challenge.

This week, there were several entrants who returned to their initial entries to correct errors. I shall always attempt to accommodate such amendments within the general spirit of the game. In fact, yesterdays game witnessed a deluge of points which almost surpassed last weeks experience. So much so, that it must be taken as evidence of global warming. When the floodgates opened at 09.01, once again 32 points fell in the next three minutes as the first 12 entrants were quick to pounce.

This week, Entrant #1 was slaney prepared to act as CANNON FODDER (but complaining that she was SADDLE SORE) and was awarded FOUR POINTS. Another early entrant was teacher1 who was mounting a serious challenge for the same Four Points. Another was gen2 who was also Saddle Sore, but brought in FROG SPAWN for a fresh hit (and four more points). The two hits of gen2 were echoed by freebie 2 & centrino for Four Points before the two-minute windows closed.

Before that critical time, beejay1124, forward, cliffyg & x-ray all scored a single early hit to claim Two Points each. A sad tale now centres around lysander who rushed her entry at 09.02 and typed in two of her predictions in error. What was unfortunate was that her two other predictions were correct and would have earned her Four Points. In later postings, she returned twice to remove these correct entries and substitute incorrect predictions to reduce her score to ZERO POINTS. A salutary lesson indeed!

With three predictions gone (and my fiver still looking good) there followed a string of single hits (with the occasional double hit) until the clock reached 11.00. At 11.03 in came wickedtongue with MARE NOSTRUM (Oh wicked, wicked tongue). He gained TWO POINTS and I lost a fiver!

Congratulations to Elspeth & SHAZZA who managed double hits quite late in the game. With so many Four-pointers in the frame, there can be no one Hot Shot of the Week, but worthy of note is Christiana who has picked up points every week so far.

The League Table after this fourth week shapes up as follows:

TEN POINTS: gen2 & ulysses100
NINE POINTS: Christiana
EIGHT POINTS: cliffyg
SIX POINTS: centrino, forward, freebi 2, slaney, teacher1 & wickedtongue
FOUR POINTS: Dinkypuzzled, Eiggam & Elspeth

I am certain that Sir Strix will be delighted to see that the game is now well underway ~ although he must admit that he has lost control. Next week will be the final act in this fascinating drama. Tune in to learn how Sir Strix the Sherpa climbed Mount Everest wearing only boxer shorts!

Until next weekend, when the Christmas Champion will be decided, this is crofter signing off for another week, with smoldering abacus, aching fingers and wallet a fiver lighter ~ the RNLI will benefit from my folly (donated by Strix)

See you next Saturday: Same time Same place Same Strix

Until then: HAPPY LINKING and DONT GAMBLE!

:o)
Cheers crofter you're a star and thank you.
A salutary lesson in deed,Crofter! I am writing " I must take more care" five hundred times.Regards LYSANDER.
I'm staying in bed next Saturday!! :-((
Well that's a surprise......No points again!!!!!
Thanks to everyone who helps prepare this brain teaser every week and congrats to everyone who managed to get on Strix's wavelength!!!!!!!!
Thanks Crofter, at least I stopped your abacus from going into meltdown, and Sir Strix the Hippocampus (see the themes for the last 2 weeks) for another unsuccessful challenge....at least I might double my score for the month to 2 next week!!
Ah, Pauline, don't go sulky on me. I'll see you same place, same time, next friday under our usual Shrub xx

And, twix123, no miscegenated clues next week!!

Strix
Thanks crofter for the answers.
You spoilt my score strix - I was hoping to qualify for the wooden spoon this month by getting nul points and now I've got a double with CANNON FODDER. (Thats all though.)
Sorry lysander for your mix-up...how cruel to deny you those points !!!!
Yes Pauline I think I will stay in bed next Saturday - warmest place lately.
Hard luck Kay...agree with your sentiments - great fun to be a part of this game - yes, thanks to all who take part.
We are all nuts really...glad I'm not the only one.
See you all next weekend, and good luck with tomorrows (well I suppose it's todays) KM Links.
Well done. All scorers muster aft for a tot.
I knew mare would have a Latin link, but could I think of it? No. I could not.
Many thanks crofter & Strix. I've come to this thread late to find I am equal top! How did that happen? I'm sure it can't last and will all fall apart next week when Sir Strix goes all obscure again.

Particularly 'Well Done' to wickedtongue for risking going for such an obscure answer. I'm afraid I would have backed crofter to win that bet! Does that mean we will all be looking for obscure links next week? Probably.
Congratulations to Wickedtongue for a double hit - the most obscure link on both KM and MM, and, of course, to our two leaders - but look out I'm breathing down your necks!
Not a sausage for me this week...no surprises there then.
Strix, you are a rascal.
Many thanks to crofter and many congratulations to anyone who scored...as for those who got more than one link...I am not worthy etc etc.
