I was not given an interveiw for a job even though i have been doing it for three years as a volunteer. i was told it was because i was in a relationship with another worker. then when i pointed it out that there were not policies stating that i could not be employed, they said i was not better skilled as the another candidates ( all three). but i know for a fact (inside informant) that the other people were not that good with little exsperience. Also the job required supporting men and women with emotional problems but the company has no paid men on the books. i was the ony man working there. there were no other male applicants. any ideas or feedback would be great

yer but still sucks. the thing is im a bit of one of those that once i get a bee in my bonnet i dont let go. so im going to fight this one on the grounds that i was not given an equal opp at the job as the company policy states i would be given. also im going to look into sexual descrimination. being a man i should have had that on my side. considering its to do with working with men. and more inportantly with young people who come for help and advice. there are some things a woman cant help with.

It can sometimes just depend on how well you apply. The authority I work for has a very strict interview selection policy which depends on the applicant showing, on the form, how many 'essential' and 'desirable' criteria from the job/person spec. they can meet. The more the applicant can meet, the more likely they are to get an interview.

There is a tendency, especially if you are already familiar with the selection panel, to assume that they will know which criteria you meet and how - and they probably do. However, they can't be expected to know this for external applicants and so it wouldn't be fair on the latter. Therefore it's vital that you address every aspect of the job/person spec on your application form, and it could be that this is what you didn't do on this occasion, hence the reason you didn't get an interview.

I wouldnt mind but i was encouraged to apply for the job by the company and i would be happy if i didnt get it as a result of someone else having more qualifications.but it wasnt. the person who got the job had never done this work before but said she would be happy to learn. but i would also be happy to learn (even though i have been doing the job and learned all that i could. i wasnt even given an interveiw so that i had a chance to sell myself. i filled in th form correctly covering all of the job spec required. supplied all certificates needed. my application was not looked at. I have been told this by one of the pannel members even when the manager of the dept complained she was told to shut up.she put her complaint in writing and was told they would not look at it. Ive taken steps in a formal complaint and i was told that the person who decides who gets the job is also he person who will deal with my compaint. ive asked for it to be lookedat by someone else but i was told they didnt want it going out of house.
Sucks doesn't it? I used to hear children read at my childrens primary school, and carried on even when my children had gone to secondary school. There was a job advertised at the school for an assistant, no qualifications necessary, so I applied. I got a letter on a Friday saying I had been unsuccessful, even though the job advert had stated that the interviews would be held the following Monday. I was really quite angry as nobody at the school had had the guts to speak to me personally explaining why I hadn't even got an interview and I wasn't exactly unexperienced as I had also helped out at my childrens previous primary school and had worked at a pre-school. Needless to say I didn't stay there volunteering much longer!
