energy saving computers

why do we look at computers with white backgrounds surely this uses up more energy..if the background was black with white writing etc surely this would save energy and with all the computers in the country if it was the other way around this saving could be vast..it could also be easier on the eyes too..why is'nt it done?

Also, anyone experiencing eye strain, through viewing a monitor, needs to adjust their monitor. A monitor is only correctly set up when it can display all of the numbers, from 0 to 10, on both lines here:

Another disadvantage is the printing. Have you ever seen those web sites which you mention are totally black with white writing. To print it out must use a high proportion of your ink cartridge.
CRT monitors did use slightly less power displaying a black screen. However an LCD has a constant power backlight and black screens are made by blocking the light.

thanks for all this info.. i do prefer a white background and its nice to know its more energy efficient than black. thanks
