Before the winter heating started to come on the water temp was fine in the showers, I think we have a combo boiler or something, I usually heat the water via a timer for just 30 mins but now I have the heating on to at the same time the water is just coming out luke warm I have increased the water heating time now to 40 mins but still no difference.

Is there something wrong with the system, is it normal to have to heat the water for ages?

If you've got a combi boiler then you shouldn't need a water heater. It there a knob/switch to increase the water temperature? There is one on the front of my combi boiler.
if you normally heat the water via a timer (immersion ?) then its possibly not a combi boiler

i'm so sorry I really dont know what type of boiler it is as I rent the house.

I have like a LCD display i my kitchen where I can set the heating and hot water on at different times of the day? I also have a heating element attached to the hot water tank which runs off electricity it isn't really very efficient as we only use hot water once a day so we dont use that.

So I usually set the hot water and/or heating via the LCD off the boiler which runs off the gas. I will have to have a look see that the boiler is, and then get back on here,

Thanks
Right you dont have a combi boiler for sure, I think the problem is with the 3 port valve you have which is not opening to let the water thru to your cylinder to heat up or the cylinder thermostat is set too low and the 3 port valve is not opening. See what the cylinder stat is set at, this is normally on the front of the cylinder and has a dial on it, or you could get in touch witht the landlord to get it fixed for free as you are renting the property....

The 3 port valve should be installed so that if it fails you will get water only and not central heating.

i think you need to get your landlord to call out a heating engineer and in the meantime use the electric immersion heater for your hot water.
