What is the point of that blue triangular sponge thingy that is sewn into the corner of the nets you are meant to use with Persil washing powder tablets?

It gives it some boyancy. The idea is that as the washing machine drains, it won't be tempted to try and follow, since it's hopefully at the top of the drum.

Course, if you overload the machine...

ooohhh, i always just assumed it was to stop the little net getting pulled into the drum and braking the machine.
