as ethel says it doesnt but most companies offer a broadband modem free when you sign up with them so there should be no additional expense.

if you put a filter in it will

use the new broadband for surfing - connect the existing modem to the phoneline via filter - you have a zen surfing system .... you could even e-mail yourself .....
