Sky Digital Interference

For umpteen weeks now, I've had bad interference, both visual and audio on specific channels. Sky News and the Cartoon Network are particularly bad. The sound is fragmented, and the picture often freezes completely, requiring the system to be restarted. Most other channels are not affected. A call to Sky suggested sending out an engineer at 65 a throw. Is anyone else experiencing this? or has done in the past?, I live in the South of England, if that's relevant.

I get exactly the same.  I think it's something to do with dish alignment.  I'm contemplating fiddling with it myself to see if I can get it back to the way it was.  If not, and Sky insist on charging me MORE money to sort out a service I'm paying for anyway, I'm going to cancel it.

Same here (Sussex) Sky sports is worse, followed by Sky News....Mine looks like waves across the screen non-stop.....Weird how this is the same area (in Sky terms)

Yeah, weird, I'm in Hampshire (east). It'll be interesting to see if there's any others. I don't have Sports, but the News is practically unwatchable.
Occasionally we get picture freezing, but the audio carries on OK - noticed this most on 24 on Sunday nights, but we put this down to the recent bad weather upsetting the satellite. We are near Watford (Herts).

Sky use a few different satellites at almost the same position in space (relative to the earth, anyway).

Different channels come from different satellites, and if your dish is slightly out of alignment, you will be OK for some channels (satellites) and not for others. A realignment may help.

Try some local dealers rather than sky themselves, should be cheaper and could well use the same engineers anyway.

I live in Ibiza and have no trouble with Sky News or Cartoon Network at all!  Actually don't have much trouble with any of the channels inc Sky Sports but obviously am limited to certain channels due to the size of my dish.  Channel 5 sometimes pixcellates after 23hrs and in the rain..  Strange or what!!

this is most probably caused by dish misalignment , but could be damp or water in the LNB or a problem on the cabling.

Doubtful this is something you could solve yourself, you'd need a field strenght meter at least. The job's espcially best avoided if heights are involved, get a tech to take a look.

We live in the South East too. Our neighbour has Sky Digital & can't wait to get shot of his satellite dish & change to cable.

We've always had NTL digital cable TV & have never experienced any interference problems.

Thanks to all.

The sad realisation that I may have to splash some cash is finally beginning to hit home. Bluddy technology.

I had a different problem with Sky a couple of weeks ago.  I told them I was going to cancel and get a Freeview box as I was so fed up with them.  They sent an engineer round FREE of charge.  The digibox was replaced and the problem sorted.
I have found that taxis or other vehicles with PMR sets fitted can cause my SKY to freeze
