Toilet Seat Up or Down

What's the big deal about the toilet seat being left up or down?

I don't get it.

Why put the toilet seat down when the next person who needs to pee have to put it up again?

For the convenience of everyone, wouldn't be better if the toilet seat remains up?

Look at public loos you don't see the lid left down.

I found the solution years ago to avoid all the arguments in my household about this subject.

I removed the seat!

Having grown up with two sisters, and having three daughters, I am a 'seat down' man, always.

When I stay in hotels on business, I still find myself leaving the seat down, now that#s what I call training!

Question though - if you put the lid down before flushing, do you sneak a peak to ensure that it is all flushed away, or do you just leave it for the next user in the assumption that it has gone?

If you flush with seat and lid down how can you check for stray "floaters"
