How do go about claiming compensation from pay pal, for an internet phishing scam, Involving me sending my lovely PS3 to Nigeria, and not receiving my money?

#NB I am one of the lucky ones, who sussed it as a hoax before it was too late. I have since been working my a$$ off. I have obtained a crime reference number from the police. Have informed parcelforce, and their dedicated team, set up especially for this issue, rainbowdesk@parcelforce. Who are kindly working on retrieving the package for me. Unfortunately they inform me, I have a 1 in 10 chance of getting it back. However, apparently I AM covered by pay pal policy for upto 500. I have tried to find the answer from pay pal, but as ever, it ain't easy. Can anyone of you kind souls point me in the right direction?, as I'm getting a migraine now. GGRNNN, bloody Nigerians !!!!!!

What was the phishing scam? Phishing scams are emails intended to make you divulge your bank details and so on

How did you sell the ps3?
Why did you send it before you had the money?
"I am one of the lucky ones, who sussed it as a hoax before it was too late."

If you sent them the gear, I'd say you sussed after it was too late!

Sorry, I know am wanting your help an all. But can none of you read?

Let me make it easy:

a) I list it on eaby.
b) I receive a phish. Full of crap about cancel the auction. sell via pay pal. Lots of money in it for me
c) Money goes into my pay pal. (pending)
c) I cancel the listing
d) I receive more phish, say they need traking number.
e) I send it, and email tracking number. (I know this was stooooopid. But thats there lure of the scam right)
f) I have a moment of clarity. ""Holy Crap, I'm getting screwed here.""
g) I ring Parcelforce - I need a crime ref number.
h) I ring police - No go, its not a crime until there is proof, I will not receive payment. Well derrrr, it'll be to late then. Stoooopid police, useless.
i) I ring Pay Pal. - More running round in loops,, they refer me to ebay.
k) My blood pressure is sky rocketing now. I email pay pal AND ebay. The whole story so far, with all the phish attached.
l) I receive reply from pay pal, Informing me it is deffinately phish.
m) I ring police again. I obtain a crime ref number.
n) I ring parcelforce, they say I have to email a dept they have setup to deal with this.
o) I email parcelforce, as instructed, with all details.
That was this morning. I still have no response. The package is due to arrive within 1-2 days.

I am left feeling like I have had my pants yanking down, and someone has very rudely inserted incredibly large vegetables up my no entry passage.

You guys understand now?

What do I do?
Short of going to Nigeria and inserting those vegetables somewhere else, I don't think there's a lot more you can do except sit with your fingers crossed
If paypal told you that payment had been received then you should get your money back from them. But if they told you it was only pending, as you say, they would also have told you not to send the goods until payment was confirmed. In which case I think you're on a loser, unless you can actually get the parcel back; you'll just have to wait for that, I think.

I don't think you'll have any claim against ebay because, against the advice they have permanently on screen, you agreed to bypass the auction and enter into a private transaction.

Atman - I know exactly to do, having helped many people with eBay and PayPal claims over the years, but I take exception to your very rude tone, so won't tell you.

Yes, I can read, but I am not psychic - at no time in your OP did you say this was an eBay transaction nor the phishing emails supposedly came from PayPal.
Go Ethel.

Lesson No. 1. Do not mess with Ethel.
Was this phishing? I though phishing was when an email was sent speculatively to many addresses in the hope that some would take the bait.

In this case they seem to have targeted you (and no doubt man others) who had advertised expensive items. Was your email address in your advert (not a good idea), otherwise how would they have known your details.

I don't think ebay would be sympathetic as they warn users not to accept offers to buy outside ebay.

I undertstand how frustrated you are- these are accomplished criminals and we need to be very careful.

The police, parcelforce, ebay and payapal must be fed up too, both with the scammers and those people who fail to heed warnings or are too young/inexperienced to know better.

Was the paypal address verified/
just the word NIGERIA should be enough for anyone to know to steer clear
It doesn't matter whether the PayPal account was verified or not - transactions away from eBay are protected by PayPal's Seller's Protection only between the UK, USA and Canada.

If one party is outside of these countries there is no PayPal Seller's Protection unless the transaction was through eBay.

Ethel, this is for you. I'm sorry for ignorance, and arrogance. As you can understand, I am extremely frustrated at myself, and the situation. As you can see, I am new to the board. Basically is what your saying that I have no hope, of getting any money?
None whatsoever, sorry.
What is the present situation?

Has the money been taken back from your PayPal account?

Ethel,
No, its still pending.

Let me also give a few more details. I'm not entirely certain exactly how the scam runs, but what I can assume is the perpetrator, hacked into a random Ebay account, (from a remote server, probably). And then used this to falsify his identity. The reason I'm assuming this, is that the first email I received, was from a said [email protected], which looked like a genuine Ebay user. As I checked out his details, they all matched up.
But then the second email, went into instructions detailing the sale outside of Ebay, through Pay Pal. Reason being, is that he was very busy, being a GM of an insurance company on all.
Third email, told me of how he had an employee, working oversees, and he had asked Bo_williams to purchase a PS3 for him.
Parcelforce`s, dedicated team Rainbowdesk, have yet to reply to my complaint. And I'm now guessing that the package has been delivered. But like I say, transaction is still pending.
Hope you find this helpful. Once again, sorry for my arrogance. And sorry for upsetting the house. I am not worthy, i am not worthy. <<<<< he bows down, acknowledging his disgrace.

Thankyou for your time.
