Advice needed - Stomach Cramps & Diarrhea

I suffer every so often with really painful stomach aches, where I have to get to a toilet ASAP. I then encounter a 15-20 min ordeal of pure agony. My stomach really hurts, I pass absolutely loads of diarrhea, it makes me feel really weak, I sweat and the colour is washed out of my face. Finally when the ordeal is over, it leaves me feeling really exhausted and I need to lay down. It started a few years ago when I was following a low carb diet. It appeared to stop when I stopped the diet, but it happened again last year when I was on holiday and was not dieting. Some people say they think it could be IBS, but I tend to disagree as it only happens every so often. They attacks could occur months apart. It hasn't happened for a while now, but would just be curious to see if anyone else has experienced the same problem and can shed any light on the matter for me

Doctors. Go to the doctors. Sounds like it could be a form of IBS. Could be proctitis or collitis. The doctors can give you something to help, though there's no cure and there's no reason for it either.
My Mum suffers something similar to this, although she has been told, without too much investigation I might add, that she does suffer from IBS. Funnily enough it only occurs when she eats certain foods ie eggs or salad stuff. It might be worthwhile keeping a food diary so that you can see if there is a pattern when the flare ups happen and then you can avoid the food that may be causing it.
Hi Lainyloo, sounds terrible, poor thing. Would get the doc to check you over and don't let them fob you off! AA
I'm slightly intolerant to dairy. I can eat very small amounts of it but if I have too much then I get exactly what you're describing. Stomach starts cramping, I get hot and cold and then it's like a complete flush through.
It can happen several times in a day but by the next day it's usually fine.
I haven't always been like this. Not until I changed my eating habits and started eating healthy. I used to be able to eat everything but now a day my stomach is so sensitive to all sorts. I think often by adhering strictly to certain eating plans you're avoiding stuff or getting too much of something that it can interfere and leave you intolerant to certain foods
It well could be IBS (familiar symptoms) but I think that you should check with the doc. If it is, then its manageable and you need to sort out which strategy is right for you
I get that when i eat peppers - I'm 30 and have only developed an allergy to them in the last year and a half! took me quite a long time to realise what was making me ill as i'd never been allergic to them before.

I have the same problem, the sudden attack could be months apart, it strikes any time. I found if I had spicy food like curry, this prob would happen like a food allergy,  just dont agreed with certain food.

Sounds like food intollerance or even food allergy combined with IBS.  It's really horrible and can strike at any time.  Too much red meat and dairy does it to me and also processed meats like frankfurters.  It feels like a really bad stomach bug and leaves you feeling weak and drained.  I also run a temperature when it happens.

I suddenly can't eat crab any more, after being able to eat in all my life and certain curry spices or herbs do it (but I can't work out which ones).

hi laneyloo---i also have ibs, and have been so ill, that i have cancelled trips, missed work, and spent lots of time being too sick to do anything. i was taking so much over-the-counter meds for diarrhea and gas and upset stomach i don't doubt that they were making me sick, too.i had been to sites on the net re ibs but they were no help---until i found a site that links ibs to the use of artificial sweeteners---and then it all was so  clear!!! i had been earting ONLY low-carb foods for more than 2 years...i stopped all aspartame consumption the second week of may, and have been fine since! what a blessing...please try it. my best to you...
Laney i know exatcly what you are talking about. i know that this post was posted a long time ago but i just was researching it now and saw what you wrote. i have had the same thing before.. enough times to look it up. i remember having it a long time ago when i was like 13 it would happen so less often that i wouldnt think anything of it but then about 1 1/2 years ago it started alot. and i also had something for about 6 months that almost everything i ate made me have nausea. i spent alot of money at the doctors and they couldnt tell me what it was, finally it went away but i didnt use to have the stomach cramp problem and since 1 1/2 years ago i have had it, it comes and goes sometimes alot in a week sometimes it will be 5 6 months before it happens, and i hate it, i will feel cold and hot all through my body and then i know i have to go and that its going to hurt, and i found that a hair dryer will help the cramp pain when you are going.. but i will sweat, feel like im going to pass out from it hurting, i actually have passed out from it one time.. woke up on the floor.. and it happened last night for the first time in 1 month. 1 month ago the only thing i ate that i can think made me have it was some pear and then i ate some popcorn, i think it was the popcorn. and then last night all i ate that i dont usually eat was a green bean (1) that had some kind of mustard on it and i drank some diet rite soda, which i read has sorbitol, so it was one of those, maybe the sorbitol.. it wasnt as bad last night but its all bad when you think of it :( the point is i would go a long time without eating anything but bread and chicken and things because i was scared to try anything else.. i still am but i try to eat better things now, im very healthy and eat whole grains, fruits vegtables and protein.. but if you ever read this again, you can email me to talk about it at [email protected]
I have the same prob as you but i am only 11yrs. old and have sufered from IBS all my life.
