This appears on a series of big yellow billboards around the UK.

Anyone know who/what's behind them?

Apparently they're the Lib Dem billboards for the general elections in May, trying to get your support.

Not doing much good if you don't even know what it's on about.

These billboard ads are not actually advertising anything. They are part of a marketing experiment by a company called 'Clear Channel' who own loads of billboard sites. The study was designed to look at the impact of outdoor advertising.

Quote from Manchester Evening News;

A spokeswoman said: "It was really an exercise for internal research. We wanted to see how powerful billboards could be when the adverts couldn't be seen on TV or cinema.

"We weren't planning any publicity, but it has provoked a lot of interest. Outdoor advertising is one of the most powerful mediums as you can't avoid them and you don't have to buy anything."
