My husband took my car without my permission,He was not insured to drive,So the police seized my car from him.My husband asked the police if his wife came with the relevent documentation would she be allowed to take the car home without having to go to the compound which was many miles away.The police told him (it didnt work like that and your wife would have to go to the compound the next day).Did i not have a case to go and collect my car immediatly so long as i presented all my documents and relevent fees?.

how do the police know he took the car without your permission. i can never understand in these cases how they know this unless the husband/wife has told the police. it is a case that if you don't say this, you will get the 6 points + the fine instead of the person who actually took the car

I would have thought that the car was taken straight to the compound.

The car being taken away, and having to be recovered at a cost and inconvenience is part of the punishment.

The fine and points for the owner are in addition to the fine and points for the driver, not instead of.

So if you say he took the car with your permission you will both be fined and get points. If you say he took it without your permission, he will be charged with taking and driving away as well as driving with no insurance.

Panic Button is right - the seized car is taken directly to the compound and the police make sure it is as it should be before releasing it. It is, after all, a stolen and recovered car.
