Can anyone recommend any good reference books that cover the above subjects? I'm a fan of general knowledge crosswords and puzzles, but I always seem to falter when it comes to botanical questions (especially shrubs) as I'm not a terribly keen gardener!

Even though I was a Classics student I also need assistance from time to time with the different Gods, muses etc from Greek, Roman, Norse mythology.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated..

why ue reference books when you can google your way to the answers?
Googling answers good - but some of us like to check in a reference book.
Lots of quiz ref books cover mythology,.
I have a books called 'everymans factfinder' / oxford reference dictionary / oxford thesaurus / and a crossword companion.
No suggestions for botony - I also get stuck cross checking plants etc.

First port of call -second hand/charity shop for books. You'll need one or two for classical 'stuff'! Who's Who in the Ancient World by Betty radice is good, but out of print (Penguin).

Anne Stibbs Crossword Lists (Bloomsbury) has good lists of plants, shrubs etc. I do not know of an easy book for Botany, although Keble Martin's illustrated book has a good index.
