Where did the phrase come from? "Your a DIV"? Dont worry i have no intention of calling someone a DIV i am just interested in what it means. I might be one myself for all i know. I'm guessing its short for being divitionalised in some way. But interested in the origin

Yes i know i spealt divisionalised wrong
The earliest recorded use of the word in writing was in Boston, USA, in 1975. However, it was apparently in common spoken use in the 1960s in Liverpool and believed to be an abbreviation of in<udividual. In other words, a person who was somehow uniquely stupid was a divvy, now shortened to div.
Oh for goodness' sake! The <u above is an error and the word should just be individual.
