Why and How did Paddington Bear end up in this country?

Well thank Gawd he arrived here 50 years ago, or he'd have never ended up with the Brown family.

Now he'd have been shoved in a 2.5million council house iwth only a 50inch plasma telly for company.

He arrived as a stowaway coming from "Darkest Peru", sent by his Aunt Lucy who had gone to live in the Home for Retired Bears in Lima.

You missed the point-I now know the answer and he couldn't have got all the way here on the train because it was pre- eurostar.
He came as a stow-away on a boat when his Aunt went into a Nursing Home. :)

Bit more ...he was orphaned following an earthquake when he was just a few weeks old.Aunt Lucy taught him to speak English and arranged for him to stow away in a ship�s lifeboat and eventually he pitched up on Paddington Station where the Browns came across him .His Peruvian name was Pastuso.

It's only a book ! You get poetic licence as an author .
He can be whatever you want him to be .Michael Bond could have made him a Tibetan speaking bear from Outer Mongolia .
Shame really that he's gone out of fashion ..Mine loved him and I still have the old Paddy Bear soft toy knocking around .
But there's a new book called Paddington Here and Now where poor old Paddy has to come to terms with the modern world . I think he even gets a mobile phone :)

But yes, you're quite right. Jeremy Clarkson's mum made the original Paddington Bear. She was selling bears to raise enough money to send Jeremy to Repton School. Michael Bond bought the bear with the duffel coat and the wellies, and the rest (as they say) was history.
