I'm not too sure what's going on with my step-father. he's just returned from a fortnights holiday with my mother & sister...instead of coming back relaxed and refreshed he's come back all irritable and bizarre (i don't think this is my mum and sisters fault.!! lol)

Approximately a fortnight before he went away he started taking Simvastatin to lower colesterol. Not sure if he might be having a side effect?

He's very aggressive and depressed and very irratable. My sister says she has also noticed that he keeps forgeting things and not hearing what anyone says to him.

Does anyone have any experience with this drug? or and idea if the two could be linked??

i have heard that memory loss is quite common. anxiety is listed as a possible side effect-maybe if he's feeling anxious could be making him aggresive. if he's acting very out of character i would say that it's very possible that it's his new medication. can you have a gentle word with him and tell him that you think he needs to return to his GP for a medication review. there are other cholesterol lowering drugs the doctor could try him on instead of simvastatin.
yes it can cause depression and anxiety. However it may also interact negatively with other medicines an even grapefruit. It is best he go back to his doctor to discuss this
