just one more try,

1. on chalk hills as well as the high street (5.5.) this could be white hose, but I don"t understand the " as well as on the high street" part

2. necessities for pioneers (3.3.6.)

3. for different people ( 11.4.) I thought "oddfellows arms" , but that is (10.4.)

1)  Think White Horse is correct, High Street reference to Bank advertising
2. Map and Compass? Maybe not, that's 7 letters....back to the drawing board!
Surely it's a Black Horse that Lloyds use, so I can't really see a link with the high street for a white horse.
There are various white horses on carved on chalk hills around Britain � Uffington, Westbury, etc.  There's a nice picture here  http://www.tourist-information-uk.com/white-horse.htm   

Hi Uncle Alan!!!  Could Oddfellows have an extra 'e' - Oddfellowes Arms? That would make it 11 letters.
