44 yr old female. Was eating a steak a wk ago and it was very tough. Continued to eat it and by the time I was finished
it was very uncomfortable to talk. Have seen Dr. twice and they see no signs of swelling in the mouth. It is very uncomfortable to chew food, talk, move around tongue. The discomfort is mainly under the tongue and neck. For a couple of days, I felt like you were pulling my tongue out of mouth. The doctor feels that it is the submandular gland. Is it possible the strain that? If so, how long does it take to heal? It has been a week and two days and I don't want to eat solid foods due to chewing or talk alot....

The submandibular gland is a gland and cannot be strained as in muscle strain. However the floor of the mouth is composed of muscle tissue and these muscles can be "strained" in the common sense of the word. it sounds as though this is the case and may take 2-3 weeks to settle completely. Stones may form in the duct of the gland, but this causes a swelling and pain under the jaw when you eat.
