Thanks for that, will carry on now.L.E
I asked yesterday at the shop where I got my quiz sheet and they said it was pub names in general otherwise it would have said on the sheet that they were in Lincs. Having said that I have done most of them and so far they have all been in Lincolnshire or what was the old South Humberside.
PS how did you do with the Lincolnshire People one?

We got nine wrong, well we had part of eight of the answers and one completely wrong which I didn't feel was too bad considering. It was the first sheet we had had by this chappie and reading on the answer bank a lot of people were dissatisfied, found it difficult but interesting, will keep trying. How did you do?
I got 104 and if I hadn't changed 4 of my answers I would have got more. Well done to you. It was a shame part of a clue was missing about the net curtain etc. I got two totally wrong but that was because I had changed the answers, and like you, had part names correct for the other ones.
As for the pub names, I am stuck on one now, and despite other postings, I have found them all in Lincolnshire/South Humberside what was. Of course pub names are much the same throughout the country. I need to check thro them all now to see if I need to change anything. I have 5 answers for No 70. The one thing about Mr Lyall's marking is that you can put as many answers as you like for each question. So long as you have the same answer as he has, he will mark it as correct, so I shall leave my 5 answers and hope one of them is the correct one. Good Luck

Thanks for that tip about leaving as many answers as you have, that saves many an 'argument' when it comess to deciding which one to leave!!!
Hi just read the conversation between the both of you, don't understand the part where you are saying you can put as many answers as you like,do you mean you can put for eg The butchers arms, Butchers inn, Butchers arms, or do you mean you can put different names altogether, i would of thought that would be cheating. from a concerned quiz person who still has 17 to go, and has not recovered from the last quiz yet.

I'm not sure what flopsymopsy meant, I interpretted it as if you have two answers put both down but like you I don't think that is fair, surely we have to decide which one to leave
sorry not to reply before but have been away for a couple of days; let me try to explain a bit better. In past quizzes, there have been a lot of complaints about the marking,; people have been marked wrong for things they clearly thought should have been right. Whenever I think there are two definitely correct answers I put them down. If one of them is the one the question setter is wanting then I have been marked as correct. In this pub quiz, take no. 70 Find this pub on the sea - To my thinking, the correct answer could be Ship, Longship, Ferryboat and even Trawlerman. These can all be found on the sea and are all pubs in Lincolnshire. If Mr Lyall wants the answer Ferryboat and you have put Ship then you will be p'd off if he marks it wrong, as quite clearly there could be more than one answer to this question. I may live in the same town as Mr. Lyall but I have never seen him, I do not know him and have nothing to do with the marking of the quiz. I find it quite degrading and upsetting that you think I am a cheat. S
I am sorry i did not mean to upset anybody i do apologize, i did not even realise you live near him, my concern was if i did put more than one answer he would mark them all wrong for being greedy (lol), with working in a school and doing tests on a regular basis and doing quizzes at home with my father as a hobby normally one answer is allowed.
Lets hope Mr Lyall reads answerbank and puts people out of their misery or even put something on his next quiz.

again i do apologize
Apology accepted. Going back to your post of yesterday, no I would not but Butchers, Butchers Arms, and Butchers Inn as 3 different answers to one question. With cryptic clues you cannot do it. Only when the questions are simple such as the example I gave do I put two answers. Another example of this is question no. 8 Robin Hood in this one. A very simple statement, nothing cryptic, but theoretically you could find Robin Hood in The Oaktree, The Lincoln Green and The Sherwood Forrester- he hid in the Major Oak tree in Sherwood Forest, he lived in Sherwood Forest and he wore Lincoln Green. How can Mr Lyall mark any one of them incorrrect? But if you have put only one and it is different to the one he has, then he will mark it wrong and you will not be a happy bunny. However I will only be putting down the 2 of them that are in Lincs. If he had marked me wrong for putting 2 answers such as this then I would not have continued to do it. No question setter is infallible and it may be that when he sets the simple questions he does not think that more than one answer could be the correct one. Just an observation, and I hope this clarifies it. I would never put more than one answer to a cryptic clue or when I just could not decide which was the correct one, that would make it pointless in doing the quiz in the first place.
