Well I got the feeling she did, because she looked so sour when she arrived and moaned on about telling Catherine to 'leave it alone ...'.

Actually I do have to say I thought it was very good indeed, although I watched it with some trepidation after that three episode thing with Kevin Whately, a few weeks ago.

And yes, I think I might have have done the same if it had been my child ... I think I'd still do it if it was my grandchild to be honest. People who mess with kids don't deserve to live as far as I'm concerned!

Oh yes - the mother certainly knew now what had been going on.

What I couldn't work out was - did she know whilst it was going on and let it carry on?

Not sure about that Ethel - probably one of that generation who just wanted to 'sweep it under the carpet'?

I suspect she knew but just didn't know how to deal with it, or want it bringing out into the open.

It was very good. You can't go wrong with anything with Juliet Stehenson in it.
