I am sure this is a silly question but will ask it anyway. I have been hunting for a pair of shoes and managed to find a pair that would be perfect except just a little bit to high. They are stiletto heels of about appx 3.5 inches but I really would prefer them to be just 3 inches. Can a cobler reduce the height of a heel at all?

If the heel has a steel pin in it they would probably have to have some way of cutting it but if they did then the job could be done, however, shoes are made on a last to give the correct gradient fit to the instep/arch, this is then matched to the heel height, if you alter the heel height you will be walking against your own axis and end up with a bad back, because you wil be leaning backwatds when you walk
half an inch isn't much difference.
Ask a shoe repair place if it can be done - I'd of thought it would make the balance a little odd

thanks Dot - I know I should really just go into the cobblers but had a feeling they may just burst out laughing. I was thinking about the shoe now being at a funny angle.

i know I probably should not be bothering too much about the difference but I am tall and as much as I do like to wear heels I am only comfortable to a certain height. I would be best to check with the professionals!!
I am sure a cobbler could reduce the height of the heel just by cutting through the material and popping a new rubber heel base on. I doubt if they could reduce the heel much more than half an inch (which is what you want !) without affecting the balance of the shoe. Here's a link to a company in the Birmingham area who do this sort of thing:-
