My Stepson has recently passed out of the Army and is now based down London way in local barracks.

His Mum, now living alone with 2 children, has recently asked him to give her 50 per week towards house keeping / coucil tax. Im a bit confused as to why she is wanting this or being charged for it when he is not living at the home address.

Has anyone come across this personally and if so, are you still paying for them or not?? This really only applies to parents claiming discount Council Tax I think.

She should be able to claim single person discount if her children are under a certain age,i would not ask my son for any money because technically he doesnt live there anymore, she has a bit of a cheek!!!

Well I agree - she has turned into someone who is trying to get money from anywhere possible when she is physically able and intelligent enough to get a decent job .... she used to be involved in Marketing before she had her children and never went back (due to depression - so she says) and now all she can be bothered doing is working in a bar on the occasional night for cash in hand! PHEW - that was a long sentence.
Does she want it as a handout or a long term loan?

Either way she has a bit of a cheek. Or perhaps she is desperate!

Unless he feels he WANTS to help her I would advise him against it as she would then see him as a cash cow and be forever on the tap.
She's a leech! Soldiers don't get high salaries and work 24/7 in the army.

Hi, Ive spoken to the Council Tax department and they advise that they wouldnt charge her for him being at the house - if they did all she would have to do is contest it with him being away and provide a letter from the Army showing he lives with them 95% of the time!

I agree with the cash cow comment --- if only I could fill you in more!!
