I know there ar mixed reactions to this programme, but for me i am loving it...

For those who are watching it, and enjoying it, i thought it was really funny tonight,. Poor Simon really does have his hands full with them kids.. but how nice it was to see them all laughing and dancing in tonights programme.. they really are a lovely family.

it was comical tonight, what with the kids bickering.. AGAIN! and Tom being sooo tired!! Really quite funny to watch it tonight. Yet they are a loving family...

They are a loving family. But the mother? What is she on? I don't dislike her, but I find her fascinating - it's as though she's on a different planet half the time! The way she just 'stares' blankly at her husband; the way she munches; the way sometimes she's so eerily quiet!

But, on the whole, I am quite interested in this family. I did feel sorry for the lad last night when he was fighting back tears. And the end bit with them dancing with the girls was pretty reminiscent of myself & my daughter. But the mother - strange!!!
Sallabananas I totally agree re the mother! I too love the show but she is driving me nuts!!! She's like another kid. She looks totally detached most of the time and then stares in amazement at the dad for addressing issues that are causing conflict in the house! He has his work cut out for him there. As the mum of a 14 year old boy, my heart went out to Tom last night - he doesn't seem like a bad kid but Emily on the other hand has me screaming at the telly!
i agree about the mother!! she facinates me, she just sits there!!
when they were speaking to emily and tom last night at the table she sat mute and looking amazed at her husband talking to them like that!!

it totally reminds me of my own family when i was growing up - in parts !!!
When they're suposed to be having a family discussion about fights, discipline etc - the father does his bit, quite sensibly - then asks the mum if she has anything to add. A mute stare, them a mumbled 'no' as if that was a stupid question in the first place. I did like it when he asked her "what the hell are you doing here then?".

I like the girls, but poor Tom. Lost in a world of strange females and a dad who tries but never seems to get it right because he never gets any support or even a response!
it made me laugh at the start of last nights one when the dad was having a total rant and then they all started laughing
hee hee
He's not without his faults, dad, but he does seem to have the patience of a saint sometimes!

Does he do all the cooking? Does mum not work - all I've seen her do is loll around reading on the bed or loll around on the sofa looking vacant.
I haven't seen much of it..but I did see a repeat of last weeks. At first all I could hear was the father ranting-it drove me crazy at first. Then-as i got into it-I really started to take to him,as his concern for the welfare of his kids was obvious.....espicilly the 17yr old daughter who was fed up with school. The final scene where he was cuddling her almost had me in tears...and i was wondering why my ex was never like that with HIS daughter.

Thanks guys for your replies.... i couldnt agree more with all the above.... Simon the Dad, yeah my heart goes out to him, no wonder he rants all the time it's as if he is fighting a loosing battle... and as for the mum ...yeah a bit vacant, and the look or horror and shock in her face when simon is trying to sort them all out, i can't believe she then has a go at Simon for doing all the shouting... he surely does have the patience of a saint!! Poor thing last night, Tom being half asleep and not getting any sence from him when even asking the simplest of questions.. lol.

Looking forward to next weeks.
i felt so sorry for tom! he didn't get chance to gie his side of the story. I hope they all watched it last night and showered him in apologies.
I really like the show but I cannot stand Simon the father. Jeez... talk about going on and on. I think the parents are more screwed up than the kids and I don't blame the kids for acting the way they do. Not that I condone their behaviour but am not surprised. It's obvious to see that the mother really wants to keep her youth and wants to be "one of the girls"instead of being on Simon's side. I don't quite understand why the parents are together as they don't seem to even be on the same level. But perhaps we get to see more of their relationship next week now that we've been through all the kids.
I can see what Simon tries to implement but boy does he go the wrong way about it. Fancy having a father you can't even talk to without it being a shouting match. He's so condescending and again it seems to be a competition between the parents of who's the favourite.

I didn't like the way they approached Emily and the boy whilst they were eating. They should've left it until after dinner as it was obvious the kids ended up shovelling their food down their throats in frustration.
