As my last question on this subject was banned - I shall try again.

I wondered if any of you have any ideas for our daughters forthcoming 40th birthday. She doesn't want a party.

We have a couple of ideas up our sleeve, but just wondered what other suggestions any of you may have. Thanks.

maybe a group day out to a theme park or somthing similar that she is interested?

Yes, a day at the races, a balloon trip, a helicopter trip. It sort of depends on what she likes and where she lives. Theatre? Concert? Supper on a boat on the river? A day's beauty treatment? Good luck!
Are you based down South Smudge? If not, my suggestion is probably not much use to you! Last year a friend of mine arranged a cruise down the River Thames for her husbands 40th.   We travelled from Reading to Oxfordshire, stopping off at a wonderful restaurant called the Beetle and Wedge in Oxfordshire before travelling back to Reading. It was a whole day out, with a good 5/6 hours spent on the barge, talking and drinking.  Admittedly, its only nice if the weather is half decent (we went in April last year during a warm spell).  The barge cost equated to 30 per head (there were around 20 of us), plus the cost of lunch on top.

Thank you all so far - we're all based in Bedfordshire.

You could organise a treasurehunt for friends and family and meet up at a local eatery afterwards.
A pamperday (spa day) package.
I do not know how many members of the family are there.  But, when she does not want partying, the one way you can celebrate the event is just sit quietly in a selected place known for serenity and calm atmosphere and just pray together.  The day will be eventful just for this prayer.  Pray not for material gains but for spiritual uplift of all family members in particular and the people at large in general.  You will never forget this day.  (Incidentally, I am 70.)
Whatever you decide on I'm sure she will love it.

Thank you for all your suggestions, very much appreciated. I can't tell you what we're going for, just in case our daughter peruses AB.
What about a casino night. I had one for my 40th and it was the best night ever. We hired a blackjack table and roulette wheel. Had a meal and then some harmless gambling with fun money for a prize of champers. We also did it again for our wedding anniversary at Christmas, and it went down a bomb! Casino Royale in Colchester do a brilliant night.

debbiew - that sounds like fun, so perhaps next year!

As our daughter now knows, I can tell you that we are all going to a really nice Chinese restaurant for a slap up meal.

What I can't tell you, is what we have in mind for gifts, etc., as she may be perusing the site this evening!

sbalas - your words were very kind.

In fact thank you all once again. smudge.

Hello smudge.

I would invite Mel Gibson round (he is always phoning, hassling me for a date!). We would be surrounded by endless bottles of Champagne and boxes of the finest Belgian truffles. The bath would be filled with bubbles and...

The night out to the chinese sounds much more fun really!

Hi coggles - now we could happily supply Champagne, Belgian Truffles & Bubbles, but sadly Mel Gibson is out of reach for this occasion - ah! :0)
