Yes, if the message is from Windows Update in the taskbar or from the Windows Update website.

If it's from an email or any website which isn't microsoft.com, then it isn't real.
Service Pack 3 is the latest fix pack for Windows XP.

It is also lickley to be the last.

While there is nothing new in it, you should install it because it will ensure you have all the latest fixes on.

Plus any future XP fixes will also require that SP3 is already installed.

It is quite big and may take a while to install so just set it going and then go for a walk or watch a film on TV (depends how fast your broadband is)

Oh okay thanks for your posts. Just one more question will it affect any of my programmes or games? as im sure some games and programmes require service pack 2 not pack 1? Or is there no difference
I rashly decided to install this upgrade the other day and after a long installation time I was left with no task bar and no icons on screen, just the wallpaper! Had to call up the task manager and fiddle around to get back to normal. I won't do anything like that agin.
