Let me get this straight, geezer. You're saying that Barack Obama junior, the one that's running for president, is a Muslim? This despite having yourself posted a link to a site that gives a pretty full and fair account of the man's background? Or didn't you read that far? Were you satisfied only to read the quoted e-mails and didn't bother to read the balanced discussion at the end? To answer your questions: Obama's father was indeed born into a Muslim family but had abandoned the religion by the time he met Senator Obama's mother in the USA. As far as I know, Obama senior had no religion for most of his life.
Senator Obama lived for a few years as a child in Indonesia and lived with his mother and stepfather amongst Muslims, of course. But he attended an ordinary school (ie not a madrassa, as is sometimes claimed) and did not himself become a Muslim. Reading his book, "Dreams from my father", I thought it came across pretty clearly that he had no religion until he encountered working-class black Christians in Chicago in his twenties and eventually joined a Christian church there.
I don't think he's a particularly religious man and I suspect that if he wasn't in politics he probably wouldn't now profess any faith at all.
The degree of discomfort that an assertion gives rise to is no indication at all of its truth. But to make a controversial assertion in the complete absence of evidence of its truth is, I'm afraid, an indication of either stupidity or malice.
