do retail industry do crb check?

i got a job at a sports shop and they said they could be doing a crb check?
does any one know if they will do this check
because most of my friends say that shops dont do checks just say there going to so you write down that you have a criminal conviction
i dont have a criminal conviction though only a reprimand
will this show on a check?

There are only certain occupations that are allowed to do a CRB check on you and I don't think shops are one of them.
