I have an 89 Transit 190 (2496cc). The cambelt has started to slip, should I replace it before it snaps?

the cambelt DOES'NT slip. lot of talk on here of them lately, not all accurate. it's not a major job to change allthough you do need special tools to do it. 30 and i'll throw in the belt... good news is they dont break, they always shear the teeth off the inside of the belt around the crankshaft pulley. the timing slips and valves touch pistons which in turn bend pushrods. straighten them out, set the timing and re-set the valve clearences. record time is 20 mins. probably an hour by the book. of course if i was that clever i would be charging and not telling for free!!!
Yes the cambelt will not slip, or I should say if it does its bye bye engine, I thikn you mean the fan belt, which is a thionish belt usually going around 2 or 3 pulleys on the very front of the engine, If memory serves, there may be either one or two which will power the alternator, cooling fan, power steering, and water pump., they are quite easy to change and should only require a couple of spanners and a bit of brute force, and the ability to lie under the ****** to get at the adjusters
