Has anyone been to Venice at New Year? We are thinking of going for a few days over this time. Can you advise what the weather is like (is it similar to the UK at that time of year?) and also whether the shops are open as usual. I understand that they may close early on the Eve and not be open on New Years Day - is this the case?

Any advice welcomed. Thank you.
