the opening document in word 2003

Friends of mine have Microsoft Office 2003 and when they open Word in stead of getting a new blank page titled Document1 they get a letter which they wrote some time ago.
Can anybody please tell me how I can change it so that a blank page titled Document1 will by default appear each time Word is opened.

open a new document
delete all the words - save as > normal.dot in
C:\Documents and Settings\<your login ID>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
