This is obviously one for those who believe in hell. From my own point of view, there is no hell, so the answer must be 'no'.

Hi Naomi yeah this is obv for people who believe in Hell
my last post was more for athiests so this is for the religionists.

Im fair like that......unlike god bahahahaha (I crack myself up sometimes.
Do you mean, would the civilian go to hell, or would the soldier go to hell?

If its the soldier, then they would need to be hypothetcially dead as well wouldn't they?

well i think its safe to assume that one point, sometime in the future the soldier will die? unless there's some new technology i haven't heard of and at that point will he go to hell for killing a civilian?
Does (he) the soldier believe he will go to hell for accidentally killing a civilian?
Speaking as an atheist and one who does not blindly rally behind the beliefs of ones own countrymen nor unquestioningly follow the moral dictates of its religious leaders:

For those who are in the thick of it, those heavily engaged in a battle to kill or be killed by those wearing a different uniform, especially when the soldiers on either side are only pawns fighting for an ideal that neither can believe in for 'reasons' that do not offer justification for the right and necessity to act in ones own self-defense . . . war is hell!

. . . imho
I don't know any Christians who would say that anyone goes to Hell for accidentally killing someone. I doubt if even the most zealous religious fanatic would make such a claim.
First of all the soldier is engaged in the war not with his will but under the orders.

If soldier believes that the war is against his ethics, beliefs or is based on wrong cause then he can refuse. Although that is not easy option in normal army life but you have to decide between court marshal in this world or the punishment in the hereafter. But whatever the reason I do not think anyone would go to hell for killing someone accidentally. I do not think anyone would be held responsible for any of the sins he / she committed without a free will or in uncontrollable circumstances.
Presumably he would go to hell for deliberately killing non-civilians, so the question is moot.
whose hell? Different people have different views of the qualifications required for entry.
The soldier would probably go to heaven. God loves all combatants because He loves war. Only way to be sure to get to heaven is to massacre whole tribes in the name of God. Extra points if you collect the gold and silver from the dead, put it in a box and worship it.
Really these questions get more obscure and pointless bythe day .

And the answer is no and no.
As theres no heaven or hell.

Can you hypothetically cope with that concept ?

D T H ?
I suppose it depends on what you define as Heaven and Hell. Some teachings indicate Heaven is a state of being with God, and Hell a state of being without God, not as a specific place in itself. As such, I guess you would have to consider what the soldiers intention was and whether he would ask forgiveness for his action?

sorry been without tinterweb for a while.

As far as im concerned the bible says thou shalt not kill.

and that seems pretty clear to me. So would the soldier or general who oredered the nukes on japan go to hell?
It's a tricky one, Sherman. Purely from a hypothetical viewpoint (and what other viewpoint can there be on this subject?), perhaps God rules upon cases individually, depending on whose side he's on in any particular war. After all, he commands us not to kill, but he's a mass murderer, so by saying 'thou shalt not kill', does he really mean 'do as I say, not as I do', or does he mean that killing people is fine if he is on our side? In the case of Japan, since the Japanese aren't Jews or Christians, he was clearly on our side - so that's alright then - isn't it? :o)

(Incidentally, I'm not really smiling. Nuking Japan, or anyone else, is nothing to smile about - but this is a hypothetical question).
Well, lets see what scripture says.

1. "Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man. (Genesis 9:6)

2.that the manslayer who kills any person unintentionally, without premeditation, may flee there, and they shall become your refuge from the avenger of blood. (Joshua 20:3)

A soldier is intentionally setting out a premeditated act of attacking another soldier and trying to kill him. This is murder.
Jesus came to offer us a way out of being sent to Hell and give us a choice where we want to go. So we have the choice whether we accept him or reject him.
That's rich - coming from Joshua!
