I've heard people say that Gin makes you depressed. Is this true and if so could it happen not whilst drinking but the following day?

Any alcohol can act as a depressent, but the story goes that gin makes people cry, but that's probably an urban myth. The following day's effects are caused by dehydration, and the varying degree of alcohol poisoning (referred to by the more user-friendly term of 'hangover') that the drinker has endured. Feeling lousy is one of the most common effects.
I agree with Andy but as gin's made from botanicals [citrus peel, berries etc] it may be that there's a reaction to that which could happen within an hour or next day. If you like gin try a different one or try it with a different mixer i.e. ginger beer
I always used to think that hangovers were caused by dehydration, yet Dr Mark Porter on radio 2 yesterday said not. He said that alcohol overhydrates you rather than dehydrates you.
