thanks, thought ringsend but could not find any reference .
It's defined in my Irish Brewers as ..
A hackney vehicle with one horse, so called because the costal area of Ringsend in Dublin was once a bathing resort for Dublin gentry, and these hackneys were used to bring them to and from the city.
