round buildings at M1 service stations

I was driving down the M1 last weekend and I noticed that at some of the service stations there were these large round buildings. A bit like a mix between a 2 story mud hut and a bee hive.
What are they ?

where on the M1
They are a standard shape building containing git for motorways. Funny shape but that is what is inside.

There was one about 20-30 miles from the M25 exit

Quite right - they are GRIT DOMES ..... if this is what you saw?

They are Nucular fall out shelters for the Oil companies to put their Directors in, if we get attacked.
