I don't know if there is a different spelling or that you may have some letters wrong because I believe the answer is ANNULUS.

Em x
An annulus is the ring like structure sometimes found on the stipe of a mushroom. The annulus represents the remaining part of the partial veil, after it has ruptured to expose the gills or other spore-producing surface. An annulus may be thick and membranous, or it may be cobweb-like. ...
Is'nt that the frill then teacher1?

Em x

Question Author
Thanks. I got annulus also. But it does not cross with POMPADOUR or DIANETICS. POMPADOUR is 12a A hair style named after a mistress of Louis XV. DIANETICS is 17a A pseudo-scientific therapy practised by Scientologists.
