Hangover without drinking

I've recently given up alcohol for health reasons and the fact that I hated the associated hangover the next day. I've been out to clubs twice since and only drank tap water. However both mornings after I've woken up with a niggly headache and felt a bit sick. It can't be due to dehydration because of all the water I drink during the night and when I get home. Does anyone else that doesn't drink have this? Or does anyone have an explanation?

It's kind of making me think what's the point in not drinking if I still get a hangover, it's a bit unfair I think!

1. Are you eating dinner when you go out, or are you going for a long time without food before bed?

2. Could this be a reaction to tobacco smoke or some other element encoutnered at the club?

3. Two headaches in a row sucks, but isn't enough to be a scientific sample - could be coincidence.
Could it be the 'bangin' tunes' are giving you a headache?
its terrible isnt it - u dont drink as ur the designated driver and u wake up the next day feeling like u have been drinking! ive always wondered why that happens even if u dont drink!!
More than likely a combination of the smoky air, the late night and the loud music. May as well have a couple!
I dont drink very often, and totally agree - feel fairly bad in the morning. I think AllYourBase had it about right - the music, smoke and latee night are surely the reason. Not fair. When i dont drink i normally go home a bit early anyway as eyes hurt from the smoke and head already aches.

yeah I always make sure I've had something proper to eat before I go out, actually I went out last night and when I got in I took some paracetemol and woke up this morning just tired but no headache! when I get in I tend to have a nibble on some japanese rice and seaweed crackers now instead of a kebab to satisfy my hunger.

I don't really go to clubby places they are more often than not Indie clubs so there aren't that many "bangin tunes" ha ha but when I drank before the music didn't give me a headache before the morning. it is most probably the smoke, my Dad suggested this too.

thanks for your answers everyone!

My friends have recently been suffering the same problem so we had a look on the internet and discovered something called RU21's they are little tablets you can take throughout the evening when you go out and it prevents a horrible hangover in the morning it works with alocohol so i can't see why it wouldn't work with water they are also available in superdrug.

I used some of those RU21s on new years eve when I did drink and rather than preventing a hangover it actually made me a lot worse than I usually am! If you still want to try them they are 4.99 or something a pack and on 3 for 2 at Boots.

I've recently been taking a couple of painkillers when I get in and before I go to bed and that seems to minimise the headaches in the morning.

I have had the same thing happen. The only theory Ive got is that I was drinking lemonades and cokes with aspartame in it. Google this product and see what it can do!
