Toric contact lenses - problem!

I have an astigmatism & wear soft toric contact lenses (with weights in the bottom).  Quite often the lenses move in my eye & the weights go off centre, meaning that my vision is blurred & I have to fish the lens back in to place with my finger!

Does anyone else have this problem or do you know why it happens?  My optician is baffled & hasn't experienced this before... he's checked under my eyelids for lumps & bumps & they're fine!

Thanks :-)

Hi fairy,

I have the same problem with my sight, I have tried the lenses you refer to (with no luck) and also a similar type which are shaped, so that every time you blink the eyelid positions the lense correctly.

The second type worked a lot better than the first but still not a patch on glasses.

I found I had to use a lot of lubricant drops; as soon as my eyes became even slightly dry, the lenses would shift every time I blinked.Hope you find an answer; I had to revert to glasses eventually, but the world is a nicer place for non-spectacle wearers. People who had been smiling and calling me 'Luv' for years suddenly got formal and called me 'Madam' when I wore specs.
I've used the lenses with success for over 15 years.  I find that disposable lenses by Bausch and Lombe are of greater comfort.  I believe they have one of the highest water content of any contact lenses.  Before you give up entirely, check with your Optometrist for other brand recommendations...

Thanks for all your answers :-)  I've tried soooooooo many different brands & have pretty much admitted defeat & got some new glasses... I just wear contacts occasionally & make sure I take eye drops with me!

fly258... do you know what that other type of lens is called??

fairy!, I have an astigmatism and wear gas permeable toric lenses, these are hard lenses.  I haven't had a problem with them and have been wearing them for 8 years.  Just for info - my optician told me that because of my astigmatism these lenses would be the only option for me!

I also have a pair oof glasses purely because they are easier for work purposes.  The only problem I have experienced with the contact lenses is redness and tired eye feeling if wearing them for many hours fairly regularly i.e. all day every day.

I wear mine only at weekends or if I am going out in the evenings, I wear my glasses to work every day during the day.

natalie_1982 thanks for your reply... I tried hard lenses first of all, but I was in absolute agony & couldn't bear them in my eyes for more than a minute!!  That was about 7 years ago though, so maybe I should have another go!!
