I was wondering whether I will have to pay for the repair as I bought the laptop in PC World less than a year a ago (i don't have any insurance out on it) if i do does anyone have any idea roughly how much this might cost?
Thanks for any help/advice given.

Depends how it got cracked, or more precisely how you convince them it got cracked.

If you broke the screen by accident then yes you pay for the repair, if it broke due to a manufacturing fault they pay.

Though unless it's less then a couple of weeks old you won't convince anyone it was a fault on the screen.

and quite expensive, but nobody is going to be able to give you a price from the information you've given, does your laptop have a 7inch screen or a 21inch screen, there would be a huge difference in price between them!

right, well its a 21inch screen and the crack runs diagonally across the screen and it got damaged accidently
A cheap option may be to scan Ebay or other dealers local to you who may have an identical laptop with a cooked motherboard. You might get a screen for less than half new cost. Get a warranty that it goes or get them to put it in, It shouldn't take long.
accidentaly makes no difference
A new screen + labour could well cost more than the laptop - get a quote before you get anything done.

consider a LCD screen ... plugged into the back
