Just trying to confirm I've understood the Canadian Embassy site correctly. If I'm a British Citizen with a British passport going to Canada for a holiday, I don't need a visa. Is that right?

Yep, that's right.

Ta very much Golem.
Unless of cousre if you were on Canadian Immigration databases as someone who has had problems with canadian immigration in the past. in such cases your stated purpose of the visit ie holiday may not be accepted and you could be returned. however if you have a visa they probably will not refuse you entry.
