My daughter has bought an X reg vw beetle which looks and drives well ,it also has full FSH and has covered 70K .I've noticed that the oil light has come on ,the car has oil ,but its over (what i term) the MAX fill line .I'm not that familier with this engine (which i understand is a Golf engine) ,could to much oil be the cause ?.
Any help would be great ,only i dont want it to blow-up for her.
Thanks

If the oil is overfilled by only 2-3mm it won't make any difference.

could be a duff oil pressure sensor or something more serious like a worn oil pump.

Should not be driven until you know what is causing the light to come on.

I've got a feeling that it might be a bit more than that ,i think whoever has topped- it -up might have gone a bit too far ,
Hi, take it back to where you bought it, if they serviced the car before you bought it they should sort it out.
First of all I would replace the oil and filter (the filter may be blocked) if the problem is still there change the oil pressure switch. If the oil light still comes on fit an oil pressure gauge and see reading. it may also be that the oil pressure relief valve is sticking. I assume that the engine has done reasonable mileage and is not making expensive noises. I hope this helps good luck.
