Anyone know how I could use up or preserve a vast quantity of fresh aloe vera jelly from my overgrown aloe plant? She's so big and has lost all her bottoml eaves, she's got a big daughter whocan take over from her and I'm thinking of pensioning her off. But her leaves are so full of jelly. Any recipes? (I tried googling, but no luck)

I can't help you with any recipes but i had some freshly prepared on the beech in Barbados and it really worked well.
But it does go off quick and needs keeping in the fridge so don't make too much up at one time.

Hi Andy! Thanks both, but it seems there's very little info on preserving the pulp, making it into a lotion etc. So I guess I'll leave old Grandmother Aloe on her windowsill. If anyone gets burnt or scalded, I've got enough aloe gel to heal most of AB
make it up into a ointment with beeswax...the best thing you could do is melt 50g of beeswax in a bowl over hot water ..the same way as you make steamed puddings..add half a pint of olive oil or almond oil ..when its melted add the aloe vera some benzoin and then pour it into jars..it will set hard..you can keep it in the fridge or a cool place..you can buy beeswax and benzoin from neals yard remedies..or the herbal apothecary...or baldwins herbal supplies..benzoin is a preservative so its essential..
to make the cream is difficult i made some in the summer and was washing up for hours...as you have to mix water and oil and its hard going..
I've come across some recipes here :

# As a skin brightener: Rub aloe vera on your face to decrease pigmentation and dark spots.
# Have red blotches after plucking your brows? Rub some aloe vera on the discolored area and watch redness disappear.
# Aloe is a surprisingly good moisturizer and is effective in combating wrinkles because the skin absorbs it quickly - rub some on your neck and see for yourself.
# Soothe a sunburn - duh!
# Create your own facial cleanser with aloe vera: Just mix with olive oil, rosewater, and a few drops of grapeseed oil in a food processor. Keep it in the fridge!
# Nourish your skin: Aloe vera is extremely nutrient-rich: it has 18 amino acids, B vitamins 1, 2, and 6, vitamin C, niacinamide, choline and the minerals calcium, iron, lecithin, magnesium, manganese, potassium, sodium and zinc.
# Create an organic sugar scrub and apply to damp skin:

* 2 tbsp. aloe vera
* 2 tbsp. brown sugar
* 1 tsp. lemon juice

# You could also try a salt scrub for rough patches:

* 2 cups sea salt
* 1 cup aloe vera
* 1 cup baby oil
* 2 tbsp. honey

# Speed hair growth: Massage aloe vera into the scalp, leave in for 30 minutes and rinse. Aloe Vera is known to balance PH and stimulate the production of enzymes on your scalp which help with hair growth.
# DIY brow gel: mix a little aloe vera with an eyeshadow that matches your eyebrows. Apply with a brow brush.
