Untreated diabetics have high sugar levels in their blood.Their kidneys make urine out of the blood and it hence has abnormally high levels of sugar in it. To balance this sugar the kidneys draw extra water from the body to add to the urine. This in effect means that they produce more urine. Diabetics get thirsty because they're losing extra water in the urine. Osmosis is the process where fluids pass through a permiable membrane to try to achive equalibrium. However I'm not a doctor, if this is a genuine concern and not an idle wonder then check with your GP.
could be a semi-permeable membrane aswell david?
Yes it certainly could be semi-permeable.
