Everybody who posts an answer has their e-mail address held by AnswerBank. Would it be possible to have the facility to send private messages via this route to other users?

I support this idea. I would hypothetically like to be able to contact AB people by email. Perhaps an emailee could be asked to give permission for an emailer to email an email to the emailee from the emailer before the emailer is allowed to send an email to the emailee.
I guess if one wanted to send someone a personal e-mail they could use one of the spin-off yahoo groups (whatever they are called). I think once you get into the realm of questioning and answering via personal e-mails then the point of the site would be lost.
Idea supported, too. I think it should be possible to send private e-mails, but e-mail addresses should only be released with the consent of the "emailee"!
On the Quizzing site one can send and receive a PM without ever knowing the other person's e-mail address - so surely the same could be done here?
Yeah. A couple of months ago I answered a question regarding a correspondents's concern about an infringement of his/her design right. I'd've liked to have kept in contact with the questioner to see how he/she got on with the impending wrangles.
Indeed, you would have to indicate that you are prepared to receive personal messages. Otherwise there would be a huge flurry of activity when certain topics were running, e.g., the current post on enjoying oral sex under Body & Soul!
i agree completely. permission must be given though.
Support your idea Steve
How would this work? Would AB Ed see the content of the messages?
....anyone wishing to avail themselves of the yahoo groups set up for regular users is welcome to drop by Here .

This will obviate the need for any third party email handling.

I'm glad this one seems to be getting support. I think that it would be particularly useful in the Body & Soul section. Some of the questions are of a very personal and private nature and, although open posts may be of use and interest to all of us, there may well be occasions when personal and private contact would be appropriate. This could be set up in the same way as on FriendsReunited; you cannot see the other person's e-mail address but you click on a link and the message is forwarded via the web site. If the two parties then wish to exchange e-mail addresses and correspond direct, they can.
One slight danger to email forwarding is that, even if an email address were kept hidden by some neat coding, the possibility would still exist for spamming and the sending of unsoliced filth and other unwanted rubbish. Friends Reunited offer a subscription service to help prevent and police this, but that is an additional layer unnecessary here. I agree with J2buttonsw and Sft42, the possibility exists off site to contact other users in a fairly open and controlled way that can, if the parties wish, lead to private emails being exchanged.

i was browsing another site -not as good as this one of course- www.grumpieroldmen.co.uk  and at the end of each listing there are 2 little buttons "view users profile" which says which part of the world you are and "send private message" both of which have been suggested for this site
